J Larsen Presents: Naikan—Gratitude, Grace and the Japanese Art of Self-Reflection
Naikan is a Japanese word that means ‘looking inside,’ though a more poetic translation might be ‘seeing oneself with the mind’s eye.’ It is a structured method of self-reflection that helps us to understand ourselves, our relationships, and the fundamental nature of human existence. Naikan was developed in Japan in the 1940s by Ishin Yoshimoto, a devout Buddhist of the Pure Land sect (Jodo Shinshu).
The meeting will be on ZOOM, and here is the link for attendance.
Phone In: 1(253)215 – 8782
Meeting ID: 699 489 9291 Passcode: 9103173
PLEASE NOTE: J would like to gift each attendee with a special Naikan journal for use at the meeting and going forward afterwards. Since the meeting will be on ZOOM, we can provide your journal by delivery to your home (if local), by leaving it at the sanctuary with your name on it (so you can pick it up there), or by mail (if out of the area).
PLEASE RESPOND to this email if you plan to attend, and let me know how you would like to receive your journal. Please provide your address if you’d like delivery (or by mail) to your home. If you could respond by Friday, October 8, that would be perfect!
Deliveries to the sanctuary will be made by October 9, and thus will be available at the Sunday service on October 10. The home deliveries will be made on October 14th or 15th. We will just ring the doorbell and leave the journal at your front door.
For the ZOOM meeting, please have a pen and paper (or the Naikan journal) readily available.
